Computed with the same four public criteria as every profile. The human-evidence grade on an indexed profile is set automatically and may change when it is hand-reviewed. It is not a safety score, not a purity rating, and not medical advice, and not a claim that this compound treats, cures, or prevents any condition.
What it is
Bortezomib, known by the brand name Velcade, is a small dipeptide boronic acid compound that blocks the proteasome, the cellular machinery that breaks down unneeded proteins. By inhibiting it, bortezomib causes damaged and regulatory proteins to build up in cells, which is thought to push cancer cells, especially myeloma cells, toward cell death.
What the evidence shows
Bortezomib is FDA approved for the treatment of multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma, backed by more than 1,100 registered human trials reaching Phase 4 and over 12,000 published papers. Its use in other conditions remains investigational.
