What it is
A synthetic peptide derived from a protein found in gastric juice. Proposed to promote angiogenesis (new blood-vessel growth) and tissue repair. Its mechanism in humans is not well established.
What the research says
Most evidence is from rat studies. Controlled human trials are essentially absent.
One small study reported 7 of 12 people with chronic knee pain felt relief for over six months after a single injection. Very small and uncontrolled.
Animal models suggest a protective GI effect. Not confirmed in humans.
