Computed with the same four public criteria as every profile. The human-evidence grade on an indexed profile is set automatically and may change when it is hand-reviewed. It is not a safety score, not a purity rating, and not medical advice, and not a claim that this compound treats, cures, or prevents any condition.
What it is
Degarelix, sold as Firmagon, is a synthetic peptide that blocks gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptors in the pituitary gland. By blocking these receptors, it reduces release of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone, which in turn lowers testosterone production without the initial surge seen with GnRH agonists.
What the evidence shows
Degarelix is FDA approved for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer, supported by a large body of clinical research including about 170 registered human trials reaching Phase 4. Its use outside this approved indication is not established.
