Elastin peptides
SupplementHydrolyzed structural protein supplement
Very thin human evidence
- Regulatory standing. Sold as a supplement, not an approved drug
- Limited human data. Some human data exists, not conclusive
- No registered human trials. Nothing registered on ClinicalTrials.gov
- No sources. Nothing cited to verify
Computed with the same four public criteria as every profile. The human-evidence grade on an indexed profile is set automatically and may change when it is hand-reviewed. It is not a safety score, not a purity rating, and not medical advice, and not a claim that this compound treats, cures, or prevents any condition.
What it is
Elastin peptides are short protein fragments made by breaking down elastin, the stretchy structural protein found in skin, blood vessels, and connective tissue, often sourced from fish or animal tissue. They are sold as dietary supplements, and the idea is that some fragments may be absorbed and signal skin cells such as fibroblasts, though how much reaches tissues intact is unclear.
What the evidence shows
A small number of human studies, including two registered trials, have looked at skin-related outcomes, but the results are limited and not conclusive, and much of the published research is lab or animal work or concerns elastin fragments made naturally in the body. No benefit is established, and elastin peptides are not FDA-approved for any use.
