Strong, human-grade evidence

  • Regulatory standing. FDA-approved prescription medicine
  • Human trials. Backed by controlled human studies
  • Registered human trials. 411 registered studies on ClinicalTrials.gov, most advanced Phase 4
  • No sources. Nothing cited to verify

Computed with the same four public criteria as every profile. The human-evidence grade on an indexed profile is set automatically and may change when it is hand-reviewed. It is not a safety score, not a purity rating, and not medical advice, and not a claim that this compound treats, cures, or prevents any condition.

What it is

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced naturally by the placenta during pregnancy, and pharmaceutical versions are extracted from urine or made recombinantly. It acts on the same receptor as luteinizing hormone (LH), signaling the ovaries to release an egg and support the corpus luteum, and signaling the testes to produce testosterone.

What the evidence shows

Automatic summaryHuman trials

hCG products such as Pregnyl, Novarel, and Ovidrel are prescription drugs approved for inducing ovulation in certain infertility treatments, and some formulations are approved for prepubertal cryptorchidism and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males, supported by hundreds of registered trials reaching Phase 4. It is not established as effective for weight loss, and product labeling states it has no demonstrated benefit for that use.
