Computed with the same four public criteria as every profile. The human-evidence grade on an indexed profile is set automatically and may change when it is hand-reviewed. It is not a safety score, not a purity rating, and not medical advice, and not a claim that this compound treats, cures, or prevents any condition.
What it is
Humanin is a small peptide of about 24 amino acids encoded within mitochondrial DNA, first identified in studies of cells resistant to Alzheimer's-related damage. It is thought to act as a cell-protective signal, interacting with cell surface receptors and proteins involved in programmed cell death and stress responses. Researchers study it in the context of aging, neurodegeneration, and metabolism.
What the evidence shows
Most evidence for protective effects comes from cell and animal studies; in humans, research has mainly measured natural circulating humanin levels in relation to age or disease rather than testing it as a treatment. It is not FDA-approved, and the few registered human trials have no clearly reported advanced phase, so benefits in people are unestablished.
