Computed with the same four public criteria as every profile. The human-evidence grade on an indexed profile is set automatically and may change when it is hand-reviewed. It is not a safety score, not a purity rating, and not medical advice, and not a claim that this compound treats, cures, or prevents any condition.
What it is
Insulin detemir, sold as Levemir, is a modified form of human insulin with a fatty acid chain attached that helps it bind to albumin in the blood. This binding slows its absorption and release, giving a steady, longer-lasting background insulin effect that lowers blood glucose by acting on insulin receptors.
What the evidence shows
Insulin detemir has been approved for improving blood sugar control in adults and children with diabetes mellitus, backed by over 200 registered human trials reaching Phase 4 and a large published literature. The database record did not confirm current FDA approval, and the Levemir brand has been discontinued in the US, so current availability may vary by country.
