Computed with the same four public criteria as every profile. The human-evidence grade on an indexed profile is set automatically and may change when it is hand-reviewed. It is not a safety score, not a purity rating, and not medical advice, and not a claim that this compound treats, cures, or prevents any condition.
What it is
Oxytocin is a nine-amino-acid peptide hormone made in the hypothalamus and released by the pituitary gland. It acts on oxytocin receptors in the uterus, breast tissue, and brain, where it triggers uterine contractions, milk let-down, and is thought to influence social behavior. Pitocin is a synthetic form given by injection or infusion in medical settings.
What the evidence shows
Synthetic oxytocin is FDA approved for inducing or strengthening labor and for controlling bleeding after childbirth, and it has been studied in hundreds of registered human trials. Uses outside obstetrics, such as intranasal oxytocin for social, psychiatric, or metabolic conditions, have mixed and inconclusive human evidence and are not approved.
