P21
Not FDA approvedCNTF-derived peptidomimetic
Also known as: P021, peptide 021
Very thin human evidence
- Regulatory standing. Sold as a research chemical, not approved
- Animal / preclinical only. Evidence is largely animal or in-vitro
- No registered human trials. Nothing registered on ClinicalTrials.gov
- No sources. Nothing cited to verify
Computed with the same four public criteria as every profile. The human-evidence grade on an indexed profile is set automatically and may change when it is hand-reviewed. It is not a safety score, not a purity rating, and not medical advice, and not a claim that this compound treats, cures, or prevents any condition.
What it is
P21 (also called P021) is a small synthetic peptide derived from a fragment of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), modified to improve stability and brain penetration. It is thought to act by supporting neurotrophic signaling, such as increasing BDNF-related activity, and has been studied for effects on neurogenesis and memory.
What the evidence shows
The published work on this peptide is almost entirely in rodent and cell models, including Alzheimer's disease models. The listed human trials and very large paper count likely reflect the unrelated p21 protein (CDKN1A) sharing the name, so it is unclear whether any human studies of this specific peptide exist, and no benefit in humans has been established.
