Computed with the same four public criteria as every profile. The human-evidence grade on an indexed profile is set automatically and may change when it is hand-reviewed. It is not a safety score, not a purity rating, and not medical advice, and not a claim that this compound treats, cures, or prevents any condition.
What it is
Rezafungin is a semisynthetic cyclic lipopeptide antifungal in the echinocandin class, sold under the brand name Rezzayo. Like other echinocandins, it blocks the enzyme 1,3-beta-D-glucan synthase, which fungi need to build their cell walls. It was designed for greater stability and a long half-life, allowing less frequent intravenous administration than older drugs in its class.
What the evidence shows
Rezafungin is FDA approved for treating candidemia and invasive candidiasis in adults with limited or no alternative treatment options, based on human clinical trials including phase 3 data. Its use for other purposes, such as preventing fungal infections, is still being studied and is not established.
